Liveability Week!Trail descriptions
Sharing is Caring
The “Sharing Economy” is ever growing and I.T. allows us to connect with each other more than ever. We will investigate how sharing our resources is reducing consumption all over the world.
We will visit carnextdoor.com – a website that allows people to share their car with their neighbor
We will also visit Degraves Street in the CBD where all the cafés and restaurants recycle all their waste together. These are two very exciting initiatives and I hope to show you the benefits to everybody if we share our resources!

Sandringham - liveability at the end of the line

What is life like in the bay-side suburb of Sandringham? Do the benefits of living along the coast outweigh the distance that residents have to travel to access the CBD, cultural and sporting events? Is it all fish & chips and lifesaving or are there other reasons for people to venture out to the end of the train line?

You'll be a tourist in your own town as you explore life by the bay - we'll have the opportunity to meet with the Sandringham Surf Lifesaving Club, build sandcastles and to put our surveying, data crunching & observation skills into action :)

Melbourne livability; then & nowOur exploration of Melbourne will include a walk through the Botanic Gardens learning about Aboriginal Heritage in Melbourne. We will then wander through the Fitzroy & Treasury Gardens precinct and take on the role of citizen scientists collecting data & evidence as part of the City of Melbourne's Bio Blitz project.
You will hear about how the first peoples of Melbourne used to live and what the environment provided for them before European settlement and then use current scientific data collection methods to see what native species live in Melbourne today.

What to do:

- Check your score against the rubric descriptions on the "Learning Goals' page of the Wiki.

- If you do not understand why you received the score you did, check your blog and the homework record. Approach you home group teacher to clarify why you have received your score.

If you feel that your score has been given in error, you may argue for a higher or lower score but you will need to provide evidence

What to write:

In an email to your home group teacher, compose a paragraph or two addressing the following:

- What is your response to the score? Surprise? Disappointment? Pride? Satisfaction?

- How does your score compare to the goal you set for yourself/

- What behaviours to do you think contributed to your score? This includes behaviours that both boosted and prevented your score from being higher.

- What are at least two clear, simple changes you can make to improve your score? Check the rubric to see how to take your score to the next level. You should also explain briefly how you can give yourself the best chance of making a positive change that lasts.
